Description
Hello, friendly friends. Welcome to my first new upload in... something like over a year? I’ve been pretty busy with several things, but I thought I’d share something just to prove to you that I’m still alive.
Here is MTA NYC 3410, a 1964-65 Budd Company R32 subway car on the C train at Canal Street Station. At just over 50 years old at the time this photo was taken, the R32s were currently the MTA’s oldest active rolling stock. They have outlasted several other models from the 60s and 70s. These cars are a mainstay on the C line, although they have been known to make occasional appearances on other lines. Four retired units are currently being used for garbage collection.
The R32s sometimes get a bad rap because of their age and condition, but aside from that, they’ve proven to be quite solid and reliable. They’ve been rebuilt a few times now, and are expected to last until the arrival of the R179 cars. When that happens, a few R32 cars will be preserved by the MTA.
I don’t think I can name another city in the world whose transit system uses such old equipment for their subway system. That says something.

We only got subway in Warsaw and it's pretty new, so I can't compare... But, for example, the oldest trolleys in my city are from 1980. Still quite new comparing to this R32.
